The Woodson County Rural Fire Department is a volunteer organization of firefighters that respond to numerous fires that arise in the county each year. They also provide support to other counties in Kansas when the need arises. Fire Chief Nick Barney supervises a number of firefighters and oversees the maintenance of a fleet of firefighting equipment and the department’s facilities. Volunteers live in various areas of the county for quick response to fires.
